Synthetic diamond powders produced according to GOST 9206-80 standard are intended for the production grinding tools and the essential ingredient of suspensions and polishing pastes.
Diamond powder is a mixture of different sizes and forms of diamond grains in the form of single crystals and their fragments, adhesions and polycrystal.
Depending on the size of grains and how they receive diamond powders are divided into:
- grinding powder – grain size from 2500/2000 to 40 microns,
- micropowders – grain size from 60 up to 1 micron,
- submicron powders – grains size from 1 up to 0.1 micron and smaller
Characteristic feature of the diamond powder is its composition, or percentage of the basic fraction (the so-called matrix) and the largest and the smallest grains. This figure is given in%, except that in the case of powder grinding as it relates to weight the various factions, for micropowders- quantity of grains.
In Table 1 and Table 2 presents the characteristics and distribution of grain size fractions.
